THE PYTHAGORAS FILES

VIRTUAL COLLECTIONS

These artworks are part of a digital project and exist only as a virtual conception. To allow the artist to adapt her work more specifically to the wishes of the collector or the technical requirements of an architectural concept, these paintings are presented exclusively as digital imagos. They can be virtually inserted by the artist into photographs of the client’s rooms or architectural blueprints, to allow a customized adaption. The proposed dimensions of the artwork can be adjusted to the buyer’s preferences. The price will be adapted to the size of the work. Once the adjustments finished, the artist will be commissioned to realize the painting

DELIVERY TIME: 6-8 weeks.

TECHNIQUE AND STYLE: The Vicos-paintings are realized on a plywood support, overlaid with elaborate collage work. The actual painting is executed on this subfont, which makes for a «brut», uneven surface. The interaction of bold geometric drawing and tactile materiality is a key element of the collection.

THE PYTHAGORAS FILES -  LESS IS MORE

The Pythagoras files are a series of strictly geometric, minimalist paintings. Beyond the obvious geometric context, however, they are also a spiritual homage to the Pythagoreans’ way of life, whose community preached a simple existence based on spiritual values, in harmony with nature, and without the consumption of meat - two thousand years before Thoreau, climate activists, and vegans.

In an artistic context, this is also a commitment to the basics of plastic art. At a time when this term covers just about every other art form - from video and installation to performance, literature, dance, and music - it may be useful to reflect on its initial signification. This is not to say that the plastic arts should be redefined as consisting solely of sculpture and painting. But a little more focus on the origins and essence of the plastic artwork - its relationship to form and colour, to architecture, to the artist’s inner world and the collector’s outlook on life - and a little less superficial  and noisy event caracter, wouldn’t hurt the art scene and might lead to a deeper and more meaningful appreciation of art and culture.
